Törmönh guai was born in 1953 in Yösönzüil sum, Övörhangai. At the age of eight he moved with his family to Ulaanbaatar and has been living there since. At that time the Chinese specialists used to live in ‘100 ail’. He used to play with them, he said. The children from poor families used to study at the vocational schools after completing the eighth grade, and the rest continued their study.
We had been developing our industry and the agriculture according to the five-year plans. The socialist countries, the so-called economic mutual assistance countries built very many joint enterprises. Everyone had a job. There were a lot of Russian specialists working in Mongolia.
Törmönh guai’s father participated in World War II, therefore Törmönh joined the military. The military men were very respected in the socialist period. Provisions were very good in the military. After graduation he received a salary of 780 tögrögs.
When Törmönh guai was a student, he used to do work experience at the Manchu border and he was given the title of ‘excellent border guard’. He emphasized that people got rewards and incentives at that time through their own genuine strength and labor.
With the beginning of the repressions the lamas lived secretly and the Central Gandan (temple) was been the only one until 1990. Only the countryside ‘ails’ used to celebrate Tsagaan Sar.
The cultural campaign was conducted after the war and the people acquired literacy. Also there was a marked progress in our health sector and many people were cured of diseases.
In 1991 after the issue of the 20th decree all the property of the border post was inventoried and sealed. The prices doubled and the store counters were emptied immediately. The majority of the people didn’t understand the meaning of the privatization pink coupons therefore those who did understand had purchased from them the coupons and privatized the shops and hospitals. He said that democracy had began with the right intention, but it led society to chaos.
