In our time we were fearful almost of the glance of the teachers. I was a very restless boy but I never skipped classes. At that time the class teachers communicated with each child and two and three times a year they walked without any transportation to meet the parents. At that time, any family with an average income could purchase its monthly food supply with 100 tögrögs. In 1986-1988 I used to get an agent’s salary from two sums, Ih Tamir and Bulgan, and my life was sufficient. I used to get 1500 tögrögs monthly and it was higher than the sum darga’s salary. Within less than three months I used to buy a new motorcycle and then sell it to buy a new one. People used to wonder why I got more vacation money than the mayor. Women’s shoes that cost 14.45 tögrögs at that time and linoleum with paper and cloth backing were in great demand. The 60 möngös cookies were sold dozens of boxes a day, and they were the cheapest and the tastiest. People’s living standard was similar. When I was a kid, there used to be a man named Dugarjav who read well the sutras. There are no such lamas nowadays who know how to read well and completely like it was then.
