Summary of Interview 100811A with Nyamdari by Sarantsetseg

Nyamdorj guai was born in 1939 and he attended elementary school and a vocational school. He studied at the Medical Institute and became physician; he is still working. The books and textbooks were rare at the sum school but they still could find some notebooks and pens. Though the food in the dormitory was decent, with the coming of spring there was a lot of cases of vitamin C deficiency.

The relations between parents and children at that time seemed to be much better than the present day relations. During the repressions many lamas of his homeland were arrested and taken to Zavhan aimag to be killed there.

The cultural campaigns took place in Mongolia two or three times. The first taught people to use underwear, bed sheets, stoves and pipes and made them literate, while the next one was implemented in a slightly wider framework, improving the household and environmental hygiene with the purpose of civilizing the people.

The religions that flourish today cannot properly observe the religious rituals and customs and they have a slightly incorrect attitude when compared to religion earlier, it can be observed.

The implementation of collectivization was completed in 1958-1960 and the people joined the collectives voluntarily but it took a very long time those who had a lot of livestock to join. In fact, collectivization was well-implemented, but with the coming of democracy the collectives were completely destroyed. Privatization was carried out dishonestly and the few people who had apartments and authority took advantage of the situation and became rich.

The party handled the personnel issues during socialism and it appointed the workers at all levels as well as the officials, and people had a sincere work attitude and they labored diligently. Today people have a careless attitude and they don’t keep to schedules, they are not sociable and are selfish. Nyamdari guai emphasized that a state policy (to address this) is lacking.
