Summary of Interview 100614A with Doljinsüren by Dejid
Doljinsüren guai was born in 1924 and at that time there were no schools and no education. She used to inquire from her mother and she sewed a lot, she had skilled hands. Initially she sewed thin materials and then later she started to make deels. Unfortunately at that time cloth and materials were rare.
During the repression there were a great many arrests and there was the difference between the rich and the poor.
It was customary that men were greatly respected and the seniors were spoken to using a polite form of address. The herders had a lot of work and there was no theft at that time, and life was peaceful.
Asking for a bride’s hand and marrying were done with great ceremony, taking into consideration the day of the month, and the wedding was celebrated together with the neighboring ails. The groom’s side prepared the ger and the goods and the livestock were separated from the herds and given by both sides.
Though there were nurseries and kindergartens, Doljinsüren guai raised her children at home and she sewed and managed the household work.
At that time ‘ails’ with many livestock provided the fuel which was called the ‘official dried dung’.
The military service continued for three years, and during the war of 1945 there was a temporary military service.
The old people observed the sky and could tell the weather conditions, and radios were very rare. That time children used to run barefooted in spring and summer time and they set up gers with stones, and they played running one after another. Plays and concerts aimed at the young people were organized.
When she was small, the summer time was hot with plenty of grass and squirrels but nowadays the green has lessened and the nature is fading, she said.
Doljinsüren guai originally had good health and she is very light and quick and she said it was the peculiarity of her homeland and it is the credit of regular movement, doing physical exercises and jogging.
