Summary of Interview 100804A with Namsrai
Namsrai guai was born in 1920. His ancestor seemed to be a nobleman therefore the sum administration required them to pay tax. And they sold their livestock to pay the tax. When Namsrai guai was small, there were no schools but there was the so-called room (or department - tanhim).
He took part in the Halh Gol war. In the military he had served both on the home front and on the front. The Japanese used to poison all the water. There were many Russian soldiers and a lot of donations and assistance came from Russia. After demobilization he used to go with caravan loads to Altanbulag, Ulaanbaatar and Hövsgöl carrying sheepskin and bringing back flour, rice, tea.
During the time of the repressions inquiries were made from the sum administration, and the people were arrested and taken away. The families weren’t told the reason. Their relative named Perenlei was arrested.
Those who had no livestock gave ten tögrögs and they joined the collective. His family gave 10 large livestock and joined the cooperative called ‘For Communism’. The collective gave more than 500 sheep as a herd to the ‘ails’.
Namsrai guai talked about the collective milk section. There was a certain steady norm of milk to be milked per cow but it was hard to reach it. About 10-20 ails worked at the milk section. The collectives had several auxiliary enterprises.
When Namsrai guai was small, he was shown a motion picture in the red ger. There used to be special stores for the dargas in the socialist time and they had good supplies.
