Summary of Interview 080604A with Anonymous

Anonymous was born in Tögrög sum, Gobi-Altai aimag in 1936 and studied at school since 1950. Children helped their parents with herding and went to school very late due to duties given to households based on the number of livestock.

Also families, who did not have children under the age of 18 and those who were not married had to pay a 'no child tax', which was related to the policy of increasing the population.

Flour, rice, tea and tobacco were distributed equally to households according to the number of family members and both people in the collectives and others could purchase things according to the norms.

At that time notebooks and pencils were very rare, but these were provided by the school. If several children of one family went to school, it was allowed for one of the children to stay for free at the dormitory and parents had to bring fuel, meat and milk according to the established norms. Collectives were self-financed and were not happy if someone wanted to leave a collective.

There was less chance of the collective's livestock not increasing in number, since communicable diseases were very rare, although a few cases did occur.

In Selenge Aimag, they grew small apples and fruit and the gathered fruits were sent to the Ministry of Agriculture.

A state farm (sangiin aj ahui) was established on the basis of the collective when it was shut down, and people could use what they had submitted as norms, and were paid according to 'work-days'

Anonymous was not supportive of democracy and she feels sorry that many good things that had been created were destroyed during democracy.

The agricultural collectives were self-financed and only fuel and petrol was purchased from the state by credit.
