Summary of Interview 080809B with Tsohio
Tsohio tells what it was like working in the socialist period. Workers were obedient, and there were no people without work. In his view, in the socialist period the state also did not lie and fulfilled its obligations. There was no poverty, families with many children were supported through allowances. Divorce was also discouraged, if people got divorced measures were taken at party meetings. Since the beginning of democracy the state started telling lies, inflation rose dramatically, and poverty increased. Tsohio had high expectations when democracy began, but soon was disappointed. He does not like multi-party system and the fact that the collective farms have been disbanded. He himself received nothing from the privatisation.
The democratic movement began in the year of the white horse. Tsohio tells in retrospect that people in his place do not like the white horse, for it is believed that this particular year brings drought in the summer and zud in the winter. Also the democratic movement started with a hunger strike, which is a bad omen. No wonder then that democracy brought nothing good to Mongolia.
