Summary of Interview 090311B with Tuul
Tuul guai has visited Russia several times through the Ministry of Health Protection and the Ministry of Enlightenment [Education], and she did her student practical work traveling in the industrialized cities of Russia. The customs examination was very strict, and the men and the women were led into a train section individually. They examined the passengers individually confiscating contraband and returned them on the way back.
While she improved her qualifications at the Moscow State University, she taught Russian to the African students and guided them through Leningrad. It was odd at first to communicate with black people although they were very nice students.
Tuul guai has visited Germany, Poland, the UK, Holland and other countries. She told us about the features of each country at that time. The Asians, the Russian Kalmyks, and the Buriads are affectionate to Mongolia and they have a Western mindset. Their lifestyle is totally different from ours. She has understood well that they have quite a different life.
In the socialist time the people’s consumption wasn’t so great like today. The Russians came to work to Mongolia and the minute they acquired some capital they went back. It was shameful indeed to queue in the Russian store, and even the Russian store guards communicated arrogantly.
The countryside children read a lot of literature therefore they were good at written translation but there were no children who had learned Russian as their native language.
There are almost no indigenous citizens of Ulaanbaatar and its population has become excessive and chaotic, which is due to erratic city planning. There are almost no trees left from those planted by the Russians. They have cut down the trees in order to build buildings. There are few cultural things and it is necessary to decrease the number of bars and restaurants, hotels and billiard places. The administrative office signs and advertisements should be well-ordered, thought Tuul guai.
The present-day Mongolian women have outpaced men in development and the women have eagerness and a lot effort to manage and develop themselves independently.
Tuul guai emphasized at the end of the interview that it is impossible to re-educate the people therefore if we do not develop the nation by the right policy beginning from today, and don't hold the law in esteem and educate the people, we’ll make a big mistake.
