Summary of Interview 090329A with Ölziit
He was born in 1946 in Ulaanbaatar city. In 1964-1967 he served in the military.
He studied from 1967-1972 and graduated from the communication engineering class of the Mongolian National University. At that time all classes were taught in Russian and the education was free of charge and they even received a scholarship. There were very high requirements then. They overcame those requirements therefore many scientists, state prize winners, and high-level officials were born from among the people who had graduated at his time. At the University he was included in the list of the students who studied well. In 1971 when he had completed his fourth year, he went to the Soviet Union with a student’s team to work there. He met all the requirements to get a red diploma but due an only satisfactory mark on the MPRP history he couldn’t get it. But, anyway, later in his life party history has never been useful. His life and work began from the physics and mathematics Institute of the Academy of Sciences. In less than a year he moved from trainee to assistant worker, and his salary was increased by 100 tögrögs. In 1976 he went to Bulgaria for a period of six months to exchange experiences and he worked at the electronic computing center. 7-8 days before his return he was involved in an awkward situation. He had been stabbed and had to be hospitalized for a period of two months. On his return home he was on medical treatment for a period of one month and then he went to work. But the party and the administration organizations oppressed him in various ways and the director of the financial department suppressed him by threatening to make him pay all his own expenses of his stay in Bulgaria. Therefore in 1977 he pulled out of the Academy.
In 1960-1980 there was repression. His uncle was repressed in 1964-1965 losing his job and he then died. He heard that his uncle took the letter of the man called Loohuuz to the Central aimag party committee darga Bugyn Dejid. The content of the letter opposed the policy of Tsedenbal and appealed to change it. Because of this he was involved in the case of Loohuuz, Nyambuu and Surmaajav being left without a party membership and an official position. He then was employed as a worker at the casting workshop of the metal plant. He instructed Ölziit not tell anyone that he was an acquaintance of him. His uncle's health deteriorated and he sometimes was unconscious but still they interrogated him. He passed away in 1973, but even in 1980 the Public Security people interrogated Ölziit more than once.
