Summary of Interview 090520A with Tsermaa

Tsermaa guai was born and raised in Zavhanmandal sum of Zavhan aimag. In her childhood she was orphaned by her parents and was left with her older sister. After completing elementary school she went to the city and attended a vocational school of communication. Having graduating school, she worked as a technician at the telephone association.

Later while she still worked, she took the MNU entrance exams and passed them. She started attending evening preparatory classes and it was very complicated to manage her work and her studies in the winter cold and darkness. But anyway Tsermaa guai managed school, the communication work, the cashier’s work of her adopted mother, delivering five children and raising them. In this way she graduated from the historical faculty of the MNU and became one of the first teachers of the newly established Teacher’s Institute. At that time the Party Central Committee approved and appointed the teachers and Tsermaa guai taught for seven years at the Teacher’s Institute and then she shifted to the MNU to work as a teacher at the department of history.

Soon she started to work at the ideological department of the Party's Central Committee. At that time social science was considered to be significant and a social science department was established at every institute. The first teachers’ qualification enhancement institute was established in 1955 and for a period of two summer months all kinds of lessons were taught to the countryside teachers.

There are indeed many things created by the MPRP and if this party didn’t exist, Mongolia wouldn’t have been the way it is today, she said. Originally in the 1990s they talked of establishing a humane democratic society but today it isn’t clear what kind of society they are trying to establish.
