Summary of Interview 090607A with Luvsandanzan
Luvsandanzan guai was born in 1926 and he was raised by his parents. Then he became a lama at a place called Zuun Erhemiin aimag and he was a disciple until he reached the age of eleven. In 1939 there was a repression and the monasteries were closed therefore the disciples were gathered together and they were taught Mongolian script and they were divided and sent to the elementary schools.
The former Ulaanbaatar city temples were divided inside into 30 aimags and only three aimags from among of them were left which are the Erhem, Ih Dagina and Bangaa aimags.
The state made the children lamas secularize and mobilized them to work. The majority of them became industrial workers.
At that time religion was persecuted by the state and the circus animals used to be fed inside the monastery grounds. The ails secretly celebrated Tsagaan Sar which the state prohibited.
Before 1937 religion was temporary prohibited for three years and from 1937 religion had been openly persecuted and the lamas were repressed.
From 1941 the religion issue had softened slightly and people secretly started to read sutras and worship their Buddhas, said Luvsandanzan guai.
