Tsendsurengiin Demberel was born in 1945 in Zag sum, Bayanhongor aimag. In 1955 at the age of ten he went to the first grade and he finished two grades. His father was good at lassoing horses and he wrestled in naadams in the sum and associated with ovoo ceremonies. He served in the army. His mother is over ninety and she worked as a cooperative milkmaid, and as a stoker and cook of the sum school. Demberel served in the 107th unit in the army and trained as a driver.
Back then there were no large buildings like our [current] school building in the sum centre. The girls wore green and the boys wore blue drill-cloth deels. They had cloth bags and every day they raced approximately 21, 22 km, or 42 km total going to and from school on their horses. At the age of 14, 15 I drove steeds with the old people from my nutag to a place called Söntiin Tsagaan in Inner Mongolia and we went back for the first time on the 'wagon' [ie, train] and we came to Ulaanbaatar. Ulaanbaatar had many beautiful, tall buildings and it was a beautiful place. The buses had many seats and on top of that they had the handholds at the top. I though it was wonderful that a man drove the bus. I was thinking it was wonderful to drive such a bus, and this dream was fulfilled the next year. I became a driver in the geology sector and visited many aimags and sums.
In 1979 by a contract between the governments of the two countries 26 Bulgarian specialists came to the Mongol-Bulgarian metal plant to do a detailed study, and based on this, the pipeline was set up.
