Summary of Interview 100507A with Chimed

Chimed was born in the Bayantsagaan brigade, Tüdevtei sum of Zavkhan aimag. She entered school in 1945 when she was 10. It was when the war was over. She entered Teacher’s college after graduating the 7th grade. After graduation she worked for 4 years as a teacher and then became a party worker. She worked as an officer at the Youth League, and director of the archive. Chimed said about the socialist period: “Respected other people a lot. Worked hard to get educated, respect all people starting from infant to all people including old and young. Also it was very strict in terms of schedules and we learned to work on time due to this strict time requirement. We were such people. Despite work, we would attend a lecture, a meeting and in every activity organized by the organization. Our generation also paid a lot of attention to our educational progress”.

She said about the repressions in 1937 that highly educated people of that time were repressed. Monks of that period were highly educated. At the time she lived, religion and state was separate, so religious activities were prohibited. However, people went to monks instead of hospital when they were sick. Chimed is from the same nutag as the First Mongolian President Ochirbat. The father of President Ochirbat was a monk, who’s name was Gendentövd. He took his mother’s name Punsalmaa as his last name in order to go to school. Chimed talked a lot about her work at the party organization, where she worked for many years during socialism. She said many good things about the Pioneers, Youth League and Party organizations as well as the collectives. At that time everybody had a job and there were no unemployed people. Also, socialist competitions were organized. Chimed worked at party organizations and retired at when democracy arrived. She also mentioned about the cultural campaigns. The cultural campaign lasted for three years and according to her it had a lot of good outcomes.
