Summary of Interview 100520A with Zagdaa
Zagdaa was born the first daughter of Daalaa in 1943 in a place called Tsagaan Nuur in Nömrög sum, Zavhan aimag. She spent her childhood tending livestock with her parents and attending school. Anklebones have been imprinted on her mind the most of the toys she used to play with in her childhood. From what Zagdaa guai has said, ‘Playing the anklebones can give children a variety of skills like being responsible, honest, faithful, patient and accumulating capital.' Talking about her school time she said the teachers of that time had a fourth or seventh grade education or the people who had served in the army became teachers, and they had all the kinds of talent. Being able to sing, play musical instruments, dance, do sports, they could teach their pupils. Having completed the seventh grade, Zagdaa entered the industrial accountancy class of the finance and economic vocational school in Ulaanbaatar, which she graduated from. In 1964 she returned to Zavhan aimag and worked as an accountant of the arteli and the instructor of the aimag Youth League committee. Then in 1973 she graduated from the Mongolian National University. She worked for 18 years at the vocational school of commerce and at the age of 50 she retired on a pension. After retirement she trained as a cook and conducted a training course for cooks with Canadian and Australian financing and started teaching. Like all the other people of that time Zagdaa has taken active part in the party, League and women’s work besides doing her main teaching job. When she was working as a teacher, or in other words, during socialism, the education system imitated the Russian one and it was a system which focused predominantly on family education. Zagdaa did her teaching conscientiously and she worked to give knowledge, education and the correct upbringing to the children of that time. She also talked about taking part in the 5th Congress of the Women of Mongolia.
