Summary of Interview 101108A with Nyamkhüü
Nyamhüü was born into a herder’s family in 1947 in Manhan sum of Hovd aimag. Having acquired a special secondary education in the secondary school of Manhan sum center, she further finished the construction school of Darhan city, training as a construction worker. She worked for a year as a construction worker at a plant and quit the work due to her pregnancy. Nyamhüü guai has now 9 children. She worked as a cook for ten years in the kindergarten of Manhan sum of Hovd aimag and also for sixteen years she was the treasurer of the student’s dormitory of the Agricultural Institute in Hovd aimag. In 1997 at the age of 49 she retired on a pension.
When Nyamhüü guai worked as a cook in the sum kindergarten, the physicians constantly checked the children’s meal quality, its hygiene and taste. Nyamhüü guai’s husband worked as a transportation driver therefore the most of the time of a year he has spent driving. In case he was missing the transported goods or exceeded the transport schedule he was fined.
Her working hours began from five in the morning and she came back home at nine in the evening. There was no one to look after the children therefore the older children looked after the younger ones. When she worked as a treasurer at the Agricultural University, there were over 310 students and they had a semi-military organization. At that time she had an infant baby and if she was absent from work or negligent, she would be discussed at a meeting. She recalled the women were not excused from work and they repaired roads, built fences, dug ditches, participated in the subbotniks and they were involved in all kinds of work. If they participated in all the work organized, they were considered the best workers. Since Nyamhüü guai found out she had liver cancer she has become a Christian.
